My name is Stacey Lynch, I’m a 28 year old female who currently lives in Darwin. Within an 18 month period, I had two friends who completed suicide. Following the loss of my friends, I embarked on a mission to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. On April 16 2015 I committed to going alcohol free until the 16th of April 2016 (and so far I have succeeded.) As a part of my campaign I have been completing a blog on facebook detailing my 12 months of sobriety. My blog details my 12 months with no alcohol, I talk through how I deal with the crappy days at work, arguments with friends, when my footy team loses a game, breakups, make ups, grief, and the everyday struggles of life as a 20 something. Initially during my challenge I simply asked for friends, family and complete strangers to share my story and to help raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention. Now that I am nearing the end of the 12 months I am turning my focus to fundraising. I would like to ask the wider community to help raised some much needed cash for beyondblue.
So, how is this going to happen:#getroundemononthedeck will be held on April 16 between 6pm - 9pm. We will have some incredible live music by the fantastically dulcet Paul Phoenix. There will $10 entry fee on the evening all of which will go to beyondblue. For those arriving between 6 and 7pm this will gain you a double entry into our lucky door prize draw. The cover charge will gain entry to a lucky door prize, which is currently a $1000 debit card. You must be at Deck Bar when we 'draw the draw' to win. On the night we are going to have a blue theme - blue shirts, shorts, dresses, smurfs and double denim encouraged!!!
